Why meditate?

Sitting quietly in meditation brings us into the present moment and allows us to pause and observe what is going on in mind and body. This means we can see what our mind habits are and whether they are helpful to our wellbeing. Meditation on the natural breath helps to release what is not helpful and builds kindness and compassion to ourselves and others. This enables us to feel more tranquil, more focused and positive.

What are the benefits of meditation?

A regular meditation practice helps to reduce stress and anxiety, helps to let go of bad habits, improves sleep and boosts the immune system. Meditation increases our concentration and awareness. It develops kindness and compassion for ourselves and the world around us. It builds emotional stability and resilience. 

What does the course involve?

In this 8 week course, we will practice simple meditation techniques that you can do at home. Each week will start with 10 minutes of gentle stretches to help the body sit comfortably, some information about meditation and what to expect, and a 20 minute meditation practice. No-one can meditate if they are uncomfortable so we will use chairs, mats, walls, blocks, cushions and blankets to find the right position for each person. (You are not expected to sit on the floor in lotus position and not move!) We will then have 10 minutes to talk about meditation, if you want to. This shared experience can be extremely helpful and supportive to developing your own practice.

If you have any questions, please get in touch. This course is open to everyone. You do not need to have a regular yoga practice (or be able to sit in lotus!)
